It takes an artist like Banksy to reveal something essays can never do. In this short “banksyfilm” – you can see his art in the context of this atrocious war that Russia has unleashed on the Ukraine, and it doesn’t appear to be ending anytime soon.
Banksy has been a regular (ubiquitous) contributor to war-torn, down-trodden, dumpster-fire areas for years. In this Banksy HD video (caution: music profanity) you can see a cross section of his social commentary on the world gone amuck.
Recently BoredPanda published a series of Banksy murals scattered through Ukraine.

Fresco or Secco
Banksy’s stencils are not true examples of a fresco in the Renaissance definition. Technically drawing fresco is “a technique of mural painting executed upon freshly laid (“wet”) lime plaster. Water is used as the vehicle for the dry-powder pigment to merge with the plaster, and with the setting of the plaster, the painting becomes an integral part of the wall. The word fresco (Italian: affresco) is derived from the Italian adjective fresco meaning “fresh”. This is to be contrasted with fresco-secco or secco mural painting techniques, which are applied to dried plaster…” (Source: Wikipedia)
Renaissance or not, Banksy stirs the art world with his provocative images and political statements while not saying a word. Somehow he makes his way into war torn countries and applies just the right image to make his point.
This is what art can do.
Many thanks for this touching impressions!

I am at a loss to know how he gets into dangerous areas, seemingly undetected. I thought this link to “Segregation Wall in Palestine” might interest you – appreciating your recent post “Violence of Men” (https://banksyexplained.com/the-segregation-wall-palestine-2005/).
