It’s not about you.
The purpose of your life is far greater than your own personal fulfillment… if you want to know why you’re placed on this planet, you must begin with God. You were born by his purpose and for his purpose.
“The most basic question everyone faces in life is Why am I here? What is my purpose? Self-help books suggest that people should look within, at their own desires and dreams, but Rick Warren says the starting place must be with God and his eternal purposes for each life. Real meaning and significance comes from understanding and fulfilling God’s purposes for putting us on earth.”
The Benefits of Purpose-Driven Living:
Knowing your purpose gives meaning to your life. We were made to have meaning… the greatest tragedy is not death, but life without purpose.
Knowing your purpose simplifies your life. It defines what you do and what you don’t do. Your purpose becomes the standard you use to evaluate which activities are essential and which aren’t. You simply ask, “Does this activity help me fulfill one of God’s purpose for my life?”
Knowing your purpose focusses your life. It concentrates your effort and energy on what’s important. You become effective by being selective.
Knowing your purpose motivates your life. Purpose always produces passion. Nothing energizes like a clear purpose.
Knowing your purpose prepares you for eternity. Many people spend their lives trying to create a lasting legacy on earth… Yet what ultimately matters most will not be what others say about our life but what God says.
On the cusp of a new year it is timely to review your life purpose. I’m not talking about New Year’s Resolutions – though they often can be used to reflect your best aspirations. I’m talking about a big picture in which you see your life.
Life Purpose Exercise
Even if you don’t have a life purpose statement, the life purpose is still there. Even if you can’t articulate a life purpose statement to your satisfaction, you can tell the difference between when you are on purpose and when you’re not.
Try this Life Purpose Exercise to start forming a life purpose statement.

Writing a Manifesto
“A manifesto is a document wherein a person outlines their intentions, motivations, and/or views. These texts ask and attempt to answer the question: What do I believe? The word manifesto comes from Latin, and it connotes something which is very clear and conspicuous. While the length and content of a manifesto varies between each one, any well-composed manifesto will not only present clear attack on a worldview, but also a practical means to manifest goals. When writing a manifesto, you should keep all this in mind.”

Where are you Going?
The place where God calls you is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.
Frederick Buechner
Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and go do that, because what the world needs is people who have come alive.
